Enthusiastic and adaptable to change, our students explore the potential of interaction design in our ever changing world. Digital Design at Belfast School of Art spans digital products, branding, professional practice, user experience design, user interface design, typography, visual storytelling and designing for the fiuture for digital contexts and even the exploration of virtual and augmented reality experiences.
Firstly though thinking, idea generation and developing work through sketches and prototyping are central to the production of interaction design work. We encourage research, professionalism and an international perspective. Our analytical approach enables us to engage with exciting interaction design challenges, react to a rapidly changing industry and to develop as sensitive and intelligent practitioners.
Students are selected through a digital portfolio. The course team encourage potential applicants to show their creativity through their portfolio, which can be paper-based, screen-based or both.
We want to see evidence of your thinking and we encourage you to show sketchbooks and working drawings that show us how your ideas were developed. We’ll work with you to improve your drawing and technical skills. You do not need to be a computer genius to join this course – at this stage we are more interested with your creative potential.

Our assessment is based on a combination of coursework and written submissions. We believe a good writer is a good thinker and we encourage a culture of design research to underpin practical outcomes. We are industry focused and our assessments reflect this.
No. Throughout the course students will be introduced to the industry standard digital skills necessary to produce high quality, creative outcomes. Students develop the practical, creative and theoretical skills that will enable them to address both given projects and their own work through the use of various media.
